The City of Costa Mesa has entered into a temporary animal shelter contract with Priceless Pet Rescue (PPR) while the animal shelter request for proposal (RFP) process is finalized for animal sheltering services. The shelter is located at 1536 Newport Blvd. Costa Mesa, CA 92627. If you believe that your lost pet may be sheltered at Priceless Pets, please call (949) 691-6304 to set up an appointment to visit the shelter in person to identify and reclaim your pet. The shelter service hours are Tuesday-Sunday 10am-6pm (closed Mondays).
In order to reclaim your dog from the shelter, your dog must be licensed with the City of Costa Mesa. The dog licensing fees are separate from the impounding fees. You may apply for or renew a dog license online here, or you can apply in person with the Costa Mesa Police Department located at 99 Fair Drive. Please provide the payment receipt to the shelter when you reclaim your dog. Cash/check payments for dog licenses will only be accepted at the Costa Mesa Police Department, Monday - Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Payment by Visa/Mastercard will be required at the shelter and online with a valid email address. Technical assistance will only be available Monday - Thursday during business hours.
For dog licensing payment questions, please call (714) 754-5280 for assistance.
For after-hour shelter services, please contact Costa Mesa Animal Control Dispatch (714) 754-5674.
