Parents whose children have drowned say the day of the tragedy started out just like any other day. No matter how the drowning happened or where it happened – in a pool, spa, or any other body of water – one thing was the same: the seconds that claimed their child’s life slid by silently, without warning and forever remain unchanged. It is a fact that drowning is the leading cause of injury death of children younger than 5 years of age. In Orange County last year, nine children under the age of 5 years and another 25 person’s age 5 to 77 years lost their lives in a drowning event. Another 26 were reported as near drowning events involving various ages and injuries. The statistics steadily continue to grow each year. Remember drowning prevention is everyone’s responsibility – watch the water!
