As part of the invited application process, you will need to provide proof of passing the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) or Biddle Physical Ability Test (PAT).  (UPDATED) You must have taken and passed the CPAT or PAT on/or after January 1, 2024.  The City of Costa Mesa will not reimburse candidates for their out-of-pocket expenses.  Additional information regarding these examinations is below:

Biddle Physical Ability Test

In the local area, the Biddle Physical Ability Test is conducted by the below Fire Technology Programs. Click on the below links to get information regarding the examination, registration and test dates.

The City provides the above programs solely as a convenience to you and not as an endorsement.

Candidate Physical Ability Test

In the State of California, there are CPAT testing centers in Orange, Sacramento and Livermore. Click on the below link to get information regarding the examination, registration and test dates. The CPAT is also available nationwide. Out-of-state applicants are encouraged to search the internet for local testing areas.

Please note that spots for the PAT and CPAT may fill up quickly or may no longer be available at this time!
