Thank you for your interest in our Costa Mesa Parks! The City of Costa Mesa operates and maintains 30 different parks, of which 21 are available for park reservation permits. Park reservations are subject to availability and can be booked up to a year in advance.

To complete a reservation, it must be done in person at City Hall since it is a first come, first paid service. If you would like to move forward with the park reservation permit process, please make an appointment under “Park Rental”. Please note, making an appointment online does not guarantee the proposed reservation, which must be made in person.

Items to bring for Park Reservation appointment:

1. Proof of residency is required to receive resident rate. (Current Government issued I.D.*)

*If your ID does not state a Costa Mesa resident address, one of the additional documents will also be needed:

Current lease agreement
Current gas, electric, water, or waste management bill

Portable Barbecues (BBQ) Policy

Portable BBQ Policy

City-provided BBQ’s should be utilized whenever possible. City personnel will be responsible for the removal of used coals from the City-provided BBQ’s.
Personal, portable BBQ’s utilizing charcoal, briquettes, or a similar type heat source are limited to only those City parks that have “hot coal” receptacles for disposal of used hot coals (not all City parks have these receptacles). These “hot coal” receptacles are clearly marked, and are normally located near picnic shelters or picnic areas. Portable BBQ’s utilizing hot coals should only be used in close proximity to the “hot coal” receptacles for ease of disposal.
Large commercial size BBQ’s, towed by a vehicle, are not allowed to be driven onto the park turf. They must be wheeled by hand.
Plywood must be placed beneath all portable BBQ’s to protect concrete and turf surfaces.
Personal, portable BBQ’s utilizing propane or similar type gas canisters for the fuel source are allowed in all developed, passive areas of all City parks, with the following exceptions:Within one hundred feet (100’) of undeveloped, or brush areas.
- Within fifty feet (50’) of residential properties.
- On or within 10’ of any walkways or travel ways.
- Within parking lots.
- Within public rights-of-way.
- On or within 25’ of any fields, courts, or other facilities designated and/or intended for competitive sports games unless permission granted through the City’s field use and allocation permit process.
- Within fifty feet (50’) of tot lot/children play areas, except where City-provided BBQ’s may be located.
- Within 20 feet of any tree trunk.
- Within 20 feet of any tree branch/foliage that is less than 10 feet from the ground.

Park Reservation FAQ'S

Do I need a permit to have a gathering at the park?

Per municipal code, any gatherings of 10 or more people require a park permit. Municipal Code can be found here. A permit is not required to utilize the park amenities, however, guarantees reservation space for any pre-planned events.

Can I reserve the park for (2) two hours?

No, All park rental permits require a minimum of a 4-hour reservation.

Can I reserve a park for tomorrow?

No, parks can be reserved up to a year in advance BUT no later than 3 days before the desired date.

Can I put my reservation on hold or block out a date?

No, park reservations are a first, come, first paid service to secure the date and may require additional permit/documents upon review.

How and where can I make a park reservation?

Reservations are processed in-person at City Hall on the 3rd floor at the Parks and Community Services Department. However, phone calls/emails are encouraged prior to coming to check park availability. Availability is subject to change as it is a first-come, first-paid service.

Can I get a refund for my reservation if it rains?

In the event of rain on the day of the event and did not utilize your permit space, you must call (714) 754-5300 or email cmparksupport@costamesaca.gov within 72 hours AFTER RAIN DATE to obtain a refund for park reservation and/or deposit fees.

Are wedding events permitted?

Wedding events require approval of the Recreation Manager. Please note, not all parks may accommodate this request and no alcohol is permitted in Costa Mesa Parks.

Are restrooms available or open during park reservations?

Not all of the parks have bathrooms. If you have a park reservation near a restroom, you may call the Field Ambassadors at (714) 925-7241 for assistance in opening the restrooms or the non-emergency Police Department at (714)754-5252.

The Parks & Community Services Front Desk Line, (714) 754-5300, is only available during City Hall Office Hours.

Can I bring a piñata?

Decorations cannot be hung/wrapped around trees or staked into the ground.

Inflatable - Bounce House Vendor List

Costa Mesa contains pre-approved Inflatable Bounce House Vendors for park reservation permits.

What does this mean?

The department has compiled a list of vendors who have compiled City requirements for providing vendor use on City properties.

*The City does not endorse or have a partnership with any of the pre-approved vendors. The vendors have placed a deposit, and have current Costa Mesa Business license and Certificate of Insurance. this list is created to be a resource for an easier process for the park reservation applicants to select from vendors who know approved park locations where inflatable bounce houses are allowed.

I am a vendor and want to know how to get on the pre-approved inflatable vendor list?

We review new vendor applicants in January of each year. Please email cmparksupport@costamesaca.gov in January for more information.

Vendors | Caterer & Others

Each vendor providing a service for a park reservation permit event requires the following THREE WEEKS PRIOR to the event date:

Costa Mesa Business License
- Please contact Elsa Barajas at 714-754-5235 or elsa.barajas@costamesaca.gov. Businesses may also apply online at www.costamesaca.gov
Certificate of Insurance
- One million General Liability, ($1,000,000.00) insurance, combined single limits per occurrence and aggregate. The comprehensive general liability insurance policy shall endorse the City of Costa Mesa. Sample can be found here.
$100 security deposit. Park Reservation applicant is responsible for the deposit payment, not the vendor. Deposits are subject to retention if paperwork is not submitted and/or damage is done to the park.
