The Community Policing Unit (CPU) consists of three police officers and one sergeant that are assigned full-time to proactively address crime and quality of life issues throughout the city. One of CPU’s primary missions is to develop partnerships with the community, to share the responsibility for identifying, reducing, eliminating and preventing crime. The Community Policing Unit collaborates with numerous city and county departments to address quality of life issues and keep our community clean. Additionally, CPU collaborates daily with Costa Mesa’s City Outreach to connect those experiencing homelessness with shelter and other resources. Through these collaborations, CPU can effectively respond to community problems, reduce crime and maintain the quality of life in Costa Mesa.
Sergeant Al Lopez supervises the Community Policing Unit.
