Assisting in program planning, scheduling and record keeping and supervising and organizing recreational activities under the direction of a Senior Community Services Leader. Work schedule will vary based on the needs of the program. Position will average 20 hours a week.

The Senior Community Services Leader duties will include, but are not limited to: maintaining accurate records, writing reports, providing great customer service, and recruiting, training, and evaluating assigned part- time staff. Microsoft Office and Active Net experience is highly desirable for this position. Work schedule will vary based on the needs of the program. Position will average 30 hours a week.

Monitors the use of the swimming pool and enforces safety rules; patrols the swimming pool and aquatics facility to ensure safe and enjoyable program activities; and completes required department paperwork. This is a part-time position and can either be year-round or seasonal.

Teaches swimming lessons and/or specialized aquatic classes to the public. This position also monitors the use of the swimming pool; and enforces safety rules. Instructor Guards supervise and perform the teaching of specific techniques to participants in the aquatics program. Incumbents are responsible for ensuring that the skills which are outlined in the course description are taught; assisting in any required pre-testing program to assign the participants into classes, divisions or ability groups; assisting in curriculum planning; providing safe and enjoyable program activities; evaluating participant progress/performance; and completing required departmental paperwork. This is a part-time position and can either be year-round or seasonal.

Assists in supervising and conducting the daily operation of the City aquatics program site including the assistance in the planning and monitoring of aquatic classes and programs; and assists in the training and supervising of pool employees. As a condition of employment, a Senior Lifeguard must be available for all in-service training, annual training dates, and annual fitness performance test.

A seasonal day camp for elementary aged children. Activities include excursions (local and out of county), pool/beach, sports, games, arts and crafts, etc. Camp is held during the Newport Mesa Unified School District’s winter recess, Presidents’ Day recess, spring recess, and summer break.

Teen Camp is for teens entering graders 7th through 10th grade. There are 9 separate action packed weeks full of adventure and fun! Each week will be crammed with a variety of activities and excursions. Teens and their friends will enjoy movies, art & crafts, sports, onsite guest entertainment and much more!

City multi-use and specialty-use facilities host classes, recreation programs, sports leagues and activities, senior programs, and are also available to rent for weddings, birthday parties, meetings, trainings, and other events. Also assists with program enrollment.

Provides enrichment opportunities through both structured and unstructured recreational and educational activities in the community that have insufficient access to, or financial constraints to, City programs and/or parks. The Program consists of a van-sized vehicle full of athletic equipment, art supplies, games, puzzles, books, music, tables, and chairs. This program also serves as an entertainment and marketing venue at City special events.
