While parking enforcement resumed in September 2021, only when the street sweeper was present, City staff continued to receive resident complaints regarding the street sweeper’s inability to efficiently clean city streets due to obstructions from parked vehicles.

In addition to street sweeping during the posted hours, the City regularly completes maintenance work on streets and sidewalks, usually during the dedicated hourly window period and when the street sweepers are not present.

Enforcing parking restrictions only while street sweepers are present prevents regular maintenance activities and requires City crews to complete maintenance work during alternative hours with temporary parking controls, negatively affecting resident parking.

On July 19, 2022, City Council approved revised regulations to enforce the parking regulations related to street sweeping at any time during the posted hours.

Street Sweeping serves as one of our best management practices to control and improve water quality. The City’s contractor sweeps 850 residential/arterial lane miles of streets weekly. Approximately 1,568.7 tons of debris is removed and diverted annually from the waterways.

Residential areas are swept weekly between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Industrial and arterial streets are swept weekly between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Streets are not swept on the following City-observed holidays:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Parking restrictions relating to street sweeping hours are not enforced on holidays. Sweeping schedules during holidays will resume the following week.
